Complete waterproofing systems for shower floors, walls, niches, benches and curbs, built before any tile goes on.
Tile and grout are not waterproof. Water passes through grout and even through some tile, so a shower stays dry only if what lies behind the tile is waterproof. That layer is the most important part of the shower and the one you will never see. A good waterproofing system covers the floor, the walls, the curb, the bench and the niche as one continuous skin, with every seam, corner and pipe penetration treated. Failures usually happen at details: the drain, the valve, a corner or a bench top. In Nashville, many older showers had no real waterproofing at all, and it is a major reason homeowners end up replacing them.
We choose a waterproofing system suited to the shower, either a sheet membrane or a liquid-applied membrane over cement board or foam board. We seal seams, corners, valve and showerhead penetrations and the drain flange with the products recommended for the system. Membranes are applied to the manufacturer's thickness, allowed to cure and flood-tested where appropriate before tile. We keep photos of the stages so you can see what is behind your finished walls.
Floor, walls, curb, niche and bench are treated as one waterproof shell, not separate patches.
Corners, seams, the drain and pipe openings are where leaks start, so each gets the right tape, collar or sealant.
Membranes cure fully before tile, and we flood-test the pan so a problem is found while it is easy to fix.
We photograph the waterproofing before tile covers it, so you know exactly what is behind the walls.
Right membrane for your shower.
A sound surface.
Weak points protected.
Reliable barrier.
Leak-checked.
Proof behind the tile.

Tile itself resists water but grout does not. The membrane behind the tile is what keeps the shower dry.
Sheet membranes are adhered in place and have consistent thickness. Liquid membranes are painted or rolled on in coats. Both work when installed correctly.
Sometimes with specialty sealers, but real waterproofing needs access to the walls and pan. Often a rebuild is the right choice.
Application can take a day, plus cure time that varies by product, often a day or two.
Sometimes. We extend waterproofing where splashes reach, such as curbless entries.
